August is here and Liverpool’s pre-season preparations are ramping up ahead of the new campaign.

With just 11 days until the Reds’ season begins against Watford at Vicarage Road, Jurgen Klopp is striving to get his side ready for the new Premier League campaign – not to mention their tilt at the Champions League.

After a decent summer so far on the pitch, Liverpool now meet Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the Audi Cup, with kick off set at 7.30pm (BST), with the winners meeting the winners of Atletico Madrid v Napoli tomorrow.

Joe Gomez (knee) and Divock Origi (muscle strain) have been ruled out of the two Audi Cup games due to injury but Loris Karius, Dejan Lovren and James Milner have been passed fit to return.

Nathaniel Clyne and Danny Ward remain sidelined and Danny Ings won’t be considered for selection, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Marko Grujic and Ben Woodburn will come back into contention after being rested last weekend.

There are a number of injury doubts for the Bavarians, however, with Jerome Boateng, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery all doubtful.

Arturo Vidal and Joshua Kimmich are unlikely to feature following their Confederations Cup exertions with finalists Chile and Germany respectively.

Juan Bernat will definitely miss the game after undergoing surgery successfully to repair ankle ligament damaged sustained in the 4-0 defeat to AC Milan last Saturday.

With La Liga not getting underway until the latter half of August Atletico Madrid have enjoyed a lengthy summer break, only returning to action last week when they faced Toluca. That game ended goalless, but we’re hoping for a more entertaining match on Tuesday.

Atletico Madrid’s squad is pretty much the same as it was last season, thanks to their transfer ban that covers this summer market. The big name to leave is Theo Hernandez, who has switched sides to Real Madrid. Hernandez spent the season out on loan at Alaves though and has never made an appearance for Atletico, so he won’t be a miss this season.

This leaves Diego Simeone very little to do with regards to squad integration, with the manager instead focusing on trying to bridge the gap between them and Real Madrid and Barcelona with their current flock of players. The one positive to come from their transfer ban is that they have been able to keep hold of star striker Antoine Griezmann, so we can expect another season of him teaming up with Yannick Carrasco and Koke.

Napoli have also been fairly quiet in the transfer market, signing centre back Nikola Maksimovic, winger Adam Ounas, and midfielder Marko Rog. Most importantly they have been able to ward off any interest in their star players, so Marek Hamsik and Lorenzo Insigne can try to pry the Serie A title from Juventus’ grip.

The Italians have already been involved in plenty of pre-season action too, starting it with a huge 17-0 win over Anaunia in the middle of July and playing against Trento, Carpi, and Chievo since then. They have friendlies against Bournemouth and Espanyol to look forward to after the Audi Cup as well.
